Dear friends at Beecroft Presbyterian Church,
Happy New Year to you!
Thanks for your prayers for my trip to be with my Mum and sibling families. My goal was to ‘hang out with Mum and my sibs,’ and this was happily achieved.
As I think about BPC in the coming year, I am hopeful that we can grow in our ability to look after one another as well as reach out to people who are new to us. In particular, I see four areas that need our attention and prayers.
First, we need to increase our visitation to all who would like to receive a visit from the pastor or elders. A little conversation, Bible reading, and prayer can be a great encouragement to both the visited and visitor.
Second, we need to make small groups available to all who would like to be part of one. A small group meets for Bible reading, prayer, and fellowship. It is a place where we can get to know one another and give and receive encouragement in Christ. If you are interested, talk to the pastor or and elder.
Third, we need to train people who can serve in evangelism and discipleship. Evangelism is sharing the good news of salvation in Jesus. Discipleship is about growing in our walk with the Lord in faith, hope, and love. We need trained, capable people to help people receive Jesus and grow in their walk with him.
Fourth, we need to identify qualified candidates to be elders who can help oversee and build up the life of our congregation. In March we will read through Paul’s letter to Titus to understand how to select elders who are qualified for the role and responsibility of elder.
I am happy to introduce you all to Sungjin Park, who also goes by the name, SJ. He will be with us for four weeks of pastoral work as part of his Christ College training to be a minister.
I am also happy to say that Mark Lawson will continue as our Field Education Scheme student. Both of them will be available for visiting people in the congregation as well as helping out with various programs.
Please join the session and me as we pursue these goals with the help of Christ and you in 2016.
Sincerely, your minister,
