Thanks for welcoming us and helping us settle in. It will take some time to get to know you all, but we are enjoying the process! What good plans the Lord has for us, which we hope to discover with you.
When I recently met with the worship team of the church I shared this view of Christian worship, which I pass on to you now.
Christian worship is like Jacob’s ladder. When the Good News of Jesus is faithfully proclaimed, the heavens open and Christ and his angels come down to us. We tap a different, higher dimension, the head-quarters of the universe. We get access. No longer are we just a group of people talking in a church building, but God himself comes down to us, speaks to us, and saves us. In Christian worship, the living God makes himself known in the Gospel and miracles occur: he saves and helps people, he delivers them from guilt and fear and shame, he converts them, he gives them power to make good decisions, to endure the hard challenges that they face, and to grow into the likeness of Christ. In Christian worship people meet with God, their load is made lighter, and they are encouraged. We need to lift up our expectations for Sunday worship because the God revealed in Christ crucified and risen is with us in our public worship and proclamation.
Grace & Peace,
