Manse Update: An independent Heritage Planner has advised it is most unlikely that Council will agree to demolish the existing Manse. This is consistent with past advice.
Advice has been sought from a forensic structural engineer who has spent many years figuring out precisely what problems buildings actually have, and what it would take to fix them.
Subsequently, subsoil geotechnical and drainage investigations are in progress to determine how reactive the subsoil clay is, and whether pipes are blocked causing excessive moisture accumulation under the building. The aim is to stabilise the moisture content under the building to reduce foundation movement. The report is expected soon. Costings will then be finalised so the best way forward can be determined.
A Congregational workshop is proposed to work through the facts.
The current Manse subcommittee (of the Committee of Management, COM) is Bill McDonald, David Lowe and Ray Brown.
